For some reason, the MSI brand isn’t sold where I’m located. However, if you’re a serious Gamer or Content Creator, then this machine was made specially for you.

Micro-Star International (MSI for short) are a Taiwanese tech conglomerate that was founded over than 30 years ago.

They don’t just manufacture state-of-the-art gaming Laptops but also produce desktops, monitors, motherboards, graphics cards among a host of other gadgets.

Now that introductions are out of the way, let’s get back into the reason why we’re here.

Can you change the keyboard color on MSI Laptop?

Why, certainly yes you can!

If you’re conversant with gaming systems, you’ll realise that every dedicated gaming laptop (regardless of the make) come equipped with a particular color.

Some have a green backlit keyboard color, some are red while some are a mixture of 2 or more colours.

Because these laptops come pre-installed with a color the company deems appropriate for everyone, the problem thus will arise that not everyone (e.g – your humble self), will necessarily like the Color they find themselves with.

How do I change the backlit keyboard color on my MSI laptop?

Fortunately for us, MSI ships their GS65, Dragon Center, GF65 and all their gaming laptops with various softwares and Drivers to help owners configure their machines to their tastes.

To find anyone, simply search through your start menu.

Introducing the MSI keyboard light control software

One of such MSI keyboard light control software is called the SteelSeries Engine.

For those of you who don’t know, SteelSeries is a hardware gaming company and they manufactured the MSI laptop keyboards. They aren’t limited to just keyboards though; gaming Headsets, Controllers, Mouse and other products & softwares make up their offerings.

For this tutorial, I’ll be showing you how to change the keyboard backlight RGB Color on your MSI Laptop or computer using the SteelSeries Engine 3.

Note: Before you begin, make sure that if you’re using an external keyboard for an MSI Desktop or Laptop, it is connected to the system as at the time you are attempting this.

Step #1: Search for “SteelSeries” in your MSI windows search bar and click on “SteelSeries GG” from the list of options.

Step #2: Click over to the “Engine” tab and click the “Gear” icon.

Step #3: Here, you can choose to change colors for your MSI laptop keyboard either on a per key basis or blanket for the entire keyboard.

How to change keyboard color on MSI Dragon Center

Say yours is an MSI Dragon Center. Here’s a 3 step process to change your keyboard light color:

1. Search for “SteelSeries” in your MSI windows search bar
2. Click on “SteelSeries GG” from the list of options.
3. Click over to the “Engine” tab and click the “Gear” icon.

Here, you can choose to change colors for your MSI laptop keyboard either on a per key basis or blanket for the entire keyboard.

How to change MSI gf65 thin keyboard color

How to change keyboard color on MSI GS65

In case you already haven’t noticed, it doesn’t matter what MSI laptop model you’re currently using, the process of changing your keyboard light color is essentially the same all round.

How do I turn off the color (Rainbow) on my MSI keyboard?

Now you know how to change your MSI keyboard back light. Great!

It’s possible you might feel like the whole color show on your keyboard is a bit over the top for your taste. How then do you turn off the “rainbow”?

It’s easy and there are two ways to go about this:

1. Use the backlight hotkey button located on your MSI keyboard to toggle your backlight on or off.
2. Some MSI systems don’t come with a backlight toggle key so if you’re that unfortunate, then simply go back to SteelSeries just as we did earlier. This time though, you’ll be looking for how to turn off the rainbow color, not change it.
