MTN enables you borrow credit or airtime and pay on your next recharge via their service offering called MTN Xtratime, I’m sure most Nigerians have heard this name one time or the other..

Unfortunately, not every Tom, Dick and Harry can just plug into it. There’s a criteria set you need to pass and then there’s this pecking order that determines how much you can actually borrow per transaction, your creditworthinesss’ so to say, being the basis by which you are judged.

MTN Xtratime Eligibility Criteria

For you to be eligible to borrow airtime or credit from MTN via MTN Xtratime, here is the list of criteria MTN presented on their official website:

1. You must be a Prepaid customer

2. Have registered your number

3. You must have been on the MTN network for at least 3 months.

4. You must have spent at least N200 in the previous month.

5. Have between N0 and N12 in your account balance (and i don’t mean your bank account balance).

6. Have paid up any outstanding airtime loan you owe.

To borrow credit from MTN, dial *606#

How to borrow airtime or credit from GLO with Borrow Me Credit.

Just like MTN’s Extratime, Glo also ply this route using their service called the Glo Borrow Me Credit. Here, you can borrow airtime or credit denominations of N50 minimum and as high as N1,000 maximum, but there are conditions (as there would typically be).

Glo borrow me credit eligibility criteria.

For you to be eligible to borrow airtime or credit from Glo via Borrow me credit, here is the list of criteria they presented on their official website:

1. Borrowing from N50 to N500 would require that you’ve been actively recharging your Glo line for a minimum of 4 months consecutively. To borrow N1,000 will require that number to shift to 12 months.

Recommedations: Glo Customer Care Number, Short Code, Live chat, Email.

2. To also be eligible for borrow me credit, you’d have to be spending an average of N200, N400, N800, N2,000 and N5,000 monthly on credit for N50, N100, N200, N500 and N1,000 denominations respectively.

To borrow airtime on Glo, dial:

  • *321*50# for N50,
  • *321*100# for N100,
  • *321*200# for N200,
  • *321*500# for N500
  • *321*1000# for N1000

How to borrow airtime or credit from Airtel with Extra Credit

Airtel via their Airtel Extra Credit service enables you to borrow airtime and payback on your next recharge. A service charge of 15% will be deducted on every credit loan from N50 to N2,000. For some twisted reason, the N25 loan attracts 20% deduction. The table below explains this in detail.

Airtel extra credit

Airtel Extra Credit eligibility criteria.

For you to be eligible to borrow airtime or credit from AIrtel via Extra Credit, here is the list of criteria they presented on their official website:

1. You must be a registered Prepaid Airtel subscriber.

2. You must have paid up any outstanding airtime loans you owe (as if you have a choice ?).

3. You have to have been an Airtel subscriber for at least 2 months and use an average of N200 monthly.

To borrow airtime, simply dial *500# to select from a predefined menu or dial *500*amount# to order a particular denomination.

How to borrow airtime or credit from 9mobile (Etisalat) with Morecredit.

With Morecredit from 9mobile (Etisalat), you can borrow airtime and pay later as long as you are a prepaid customer. To check your eligibility status, dial *665*3# or text ‘STATUS’ to 665 after which you can borrow from N50 to as much as N2,000 via SMS and USSD code.

To borrow, dial *665*[Amount]# or text “amount” to 665. Like its predecessors, using Morecredit from 9mobile also attracts a service fee deduction of 15%.

Now, about borrowing and not paying back…

If you haven’t yet realised it by now, truth is you cannot not pay back dude. They gon catch you, and when they do, they gon collect their money on your next recharge as always.

Your best bet is to probably reach the stage where you can borrow say N2,000 and BAM, you throw the SIM away and slot in another. Rinse and repeat ??.
